The Bowflex PR1000 home gym is a great way to strengthen your muscles and add a bit of cardio training to the mix with over 30 strength exercises and a built-in rowing station. With up to 210 pounds of Power Rod resistance, this versatile machine helps work the abs, arms, chest, back, shoulders, and lower body. It includes triple-function hand grips for lat pull-down, a horizontal bench press, and four-inch upholstered roller cushions for leg extension and leg curl exercises. The rowing machine rail also folds when you’re done with your workout

The PR1000 utilizes Bowflex’s patented Power Rods, which provide resistance, or weight, that feels as good as or better than free weights–but without the inertia or risk of joint pain usually associated with free weights. You can hook one, two, three, four or all of your Power Rod units to the cable pulley system and go from as little as 5 pounds all the way up to 210 pounds of resistance.

They’re precisely manufactured from a high-tech composite material under the highest quality control measures, then sheathed and tested 4 separate times to ensure quality and durability. The Power Rod units are so strong, you can flex them repeatedly but you won’t be able to wear them out.

    Great Product
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars

This just arrived today. Took about 2 hours to assemble, but it’s pretty easy. I almost bought this from another site, because they were going to assemble it (would’ve been 200 extra dollars for that) and I am very glad I did it myself.

This unit is extremely sturdy and well put together. I was a bit nervous to buy this because I have young kids I did not want to trash it. Believe me, they couldn’t! This is far too well-designed and durable.

Worked out for about an hour, and I love it. Lots of exercises you can do (both muscular and cardio) and you can really feel it.

As others have noted on other models, I can see how the weights (200 lbs) might not be enough, but I am not looking to become the Incredible Hulk. This unit is perfect to stay fit and not let those holiday meals get the upper hand.

I really recommend this to anyone who wants to work at home and does not want to be bored with the same old routine (treadmill, stationary bike, etc.)

    Great job, Bowflex!

    The best workout gym ever!!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Let’s just say that Amazon is AWESOME!! Instead of paying over 150 dollars for shipping and over a hundred for tax, this was worth every penny! Assembly was really simple except for the seat bar, you almost need two people for that one to balance it out…but I got it on with some patience. Everything was easy to put together and the machine looks incredible!

Now I have worked out on free weights for over 8 years now, getting the Bowflex was a big step for me, but I wanted a gym at home instead of joining a gym and wasting money on membership fees and having to wait in line for the weight area to become free. The first exercise I did was bench press, I was immediately impressed by how great the machine made my muscles contract. My arms shook a lot in the beginning probably because I was not used to doing bench press without a bar, but I got down to the rhythm of it in just a few repetitions. After using the machine and getting an amazing ab workout, I woke up this morning feeling like a truck hit me…which is exactly how I like to feel the morning after a good workout! Sore is a good sign that the machine works! My max on bench press is 275 pounds and 285 on decline, so for a machine that has a max weight of 210 pounds to give me a great workout is just what I was looking for.

I would recommend this machine to anyone because 1.) The price you can not beat with free shipping and no tax 2.) It works your body just like free weights do 3.) You will probably spend the same amount that you pay for this thing over a two year period with a gym that does not belong to you at all 4.) MOST IMPORTANTLY!!! You can work out at home ANYTIME you want and not have to worry about how you look, the weather or the extra expense of driving all the way over there! I think this is a great product, and so far it has made my entire body sore, exactly what I was looking for. I hope the review helps :-) .

Great product for a great price. U can workout your whole body with this. Might not be the best fit for really big guys but for average adult, it’s great.

Great but check your upgrade options
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This machine is much better than anticipated. Love it. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and this is about the only low impact workout that I can stick with.

However -choose carefully. This unit is not upgradeable but probably can add 100lbs of rods if you cut out a portions of a protective bar that probably only exists to make it non-upgradable. will void your warranty though

For certain exercises you are going to want 310 or 410 lbs regardless of your fitness level. Spend a hundy or two more and get a unit with additional weight. I wish I did

    Bowflex 1000 Home Gym

I absolutely love this item. I lost 7 pounds in the first five days and after almost one month the only times I cheated was when I worked out on my “off days.”

Assembly was quick and easy. I was done in about an hour and a half and was and remain more than satisfied with the quality of this machine. I am very impressed with the it’s design and engineering.

The bad news is I broke a rod on my first rep of my first exercise. That didn’t bother me too much as it was fairly easy to use the machine without one rod. Also, the service department was quick to respond.

The only other drawback is that there is not enough weight to work the legs. However, I imagine it won’t be too difficult to get a rod pack offering more resistance.

Bottom line is the drawbacks of this machine are minor and are vastly outweighed by the numerous advantages. I have combined the Bowflex workout with a daily walk, improved diet and hydration and have seen quick and dramatic results.

    Love in the garage

My husband set this gym thing up in the garage for a morning workout. He loves it. He was surprised it actually stood up to the hype in the video we reviewed before the purchase. Very, Very pleased.

    Well worth the sale price
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Before we moved to another state I sold my old weights to avoid the per pound moving charges. I bought the Bowflex as a replacement. It was much easier to assemble than my old weight plate and pulley set, it took less that 2 hours to get it together and give it a try. The quality of the components are excellent, the holes, bolts, and other loose materials fit together with no problems and the directions are clear and easy to understand. The booklet that accompanied the equipment gives instruction for many different workout levels and is easy to follow. During workouts changing the resistance, seating, and pulleys is easier and quicker than it was with my old plate system. For my purposes the resistance bars included are sufficient. I’m not a body builder, I’m recently retired and I bought the Bowflex to help me build and maintain muscle mass and flexibility and so far it has fulfilled or exceeded all my expectations. The Amazon price was below prices advertised locally, and with free delivery it was an attractive package. I have a number of other pieces of equipment and the Bowflex was a great addition to my home gym.

Missing part/New Bowflex sold by Amazon
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Ordered “New” Bowflex from Amazon end of Dec. When we started to assemble it after holidays, we noticed a part missing–Lat-Pull-down. I called Customer Service several days ago. They indicated they could not send only the part, but would re-issue another Bowflex & I would return this one.

I do not see anything in “My Orders” nor do I have any e-mails with an update.

I am extremely dissatisfied & feel that I am stuck with this expensive item. I would like to get it resolved.

    For best results
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have been a personal fitness trainer for many years and at first I too was a skeptic about the whole resistance rod thing. I have read other reviews where people who bought this particular unit say that 210lbs is not enough weight to get a good work out.

I would suggest to those of you who think you need more weight than that to try slowing the motion of your reps on whatever exercise you are doing way, way down. Say for instance you are doing bicep curls: As you curl up, do so with a slow count of 8. At the bottom of the movement start the count at one, then SLOWY curl it up to the top of the movement ending on eight, then do the same on the way back down to the bottom of the movement to get the negative resistance, which makes each single rep more like two reps both positive and negative, up then down.

This will cause you to have to MUSCLE the weight up and down as opposed to using momentum. I would also suggest that you try working each muscle group to failure if you can handle it. This method can make 20lbs seem like 50 after just two sets if you do it correctly. Mind you, you will be so very soar, but in a good way and the results will no doubt satisfy.

This bowflex is just what I was looking for. I have type 2 diabetes and the pr1000 give me the exercise to help control my blood sugar levels.

    Great product for the money…..
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Took a little over an hour to assemble, and all the parts were there. My wife and I use it everyday. I am very happy with the variety of exercises that can be done, and you can get many more if your a little creative. One note though, there is a small plastic sticky-backed cable holder that goes on the back of the vertical assembly that is designed to hold the top cables out of the way. It came lose after just a week. I used some Gorilla glue on it and still holding after three weeks. If your on a budget (who isn’t) and don’t like gyms, this is the way to go!!!

    Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym

We love our Bowflex PR1000 home gym. It folds up, it has the option of a full flat bench or slanted back. We do intend on purchasing more weights for it. It’s great at the moment but my husband would like to add more weight as we go. Tremendous purchase and great communication with Amazon.com as our 1st bowflex was lost during shipment (found a couple of days later) but Amazon.com immediately sent out another one to us and arrived ASAP! No problems!

    A Limited Home Gym
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I assembled this Bowflex in less than two hours without any difficulty. The build quality is very good, and the manual is rich with information for configuring a work-out. After one week of use, however, I regret my purchase. This unit’s maximum resistance cannot be upgraded. It’s rated for 210 lbs, but it doesn’t even come close to that free-weight equivalent. The resistance numbers are arbitrary. For example, the resistance of a combination of a 30 lb and a 20 lb rod feels half as heavy as a 50lb rod. I am athletic but not massive, and I could bench the entire “210 lbs”. Biceps curls and triceps pushdowns are fine. For leg exercises, the weight is inadequate, period.

This machine offers aerobic activity in addition to strength training. It just doesn’t offer the resistance for body building. That said, using this machine has convinced me that Bowflex and resistance technology could offer a good strength workout, just not in this limited configuration. I recommend the PR3000.

    Slow Delivery
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The bowflex itself is great…my only complaint is the delivery process. I chose free shipping, and a week later received an e-mail from Amazon with the estimated delivery date. A week after that date, it was still not here. There was no phone number supplied in the e-mail, only the name of the delivery company. So I had to track down the delivery company on-line to find their local number. When I called, they said the delivery had been transferred to another company. I called the number they provided & scheduled time for delivery, since a signature was supposed to be required (he gave me a two hour window). I waited for him to show, but he never did. I called several times & got voice mail each time. I received no call back. The bowflex was finally delivered unannounced the following day. It was left on my porch, so I never did sign for it. If you’re going to purchase this, I’d recommend a more reliable means of shipping – the extra cost may be worth it.

    Working out very well
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased it to strengthen some less frequently used muscles and it works great. It was easy to assemble and is nice a quiet during the workout. No clanging of weights. The maximum weight is not enough to do leg press with low number of reps, but you can buy the heaver rod set. I have been using it for two weeks now and I am very happy with it.

    what I was looking for
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My Husband bought me a bowflex for my birthday, it took him only about a hour to put it together. I choose the bowflex PR1000 and it was what i wanted. The only down fall its not made for very heavy lifting but for a girl it the perfect size. I would recommend this to anyone (women) who wants to gain muscle and lose weight.

Spend the extra money and get the 3000 model or better. It’s a real chore changing the cables around for each excersize.

    Great for the price
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I put this together myself, which is a pretty good workout in itself. (OK, my husband helped a bit, but I did 90% of it.) It’s sturdy, but not rock solid. It’s fairly small for a work out machine, and the bench can fold up, so the footprint is about 4′x3′. It’s about 6 1/2 feet tall. I’m 5′4″ and it’s tall enough for me. My husband is 5′11″ and this is just barely tall enough for him. The bars “weight” is 105 lbs for each side, which might not be enough for a body builder, but it’s good for us. After a half hour work out, my muscles know I’ve been doing something.

The booklet that comes with the machine has several exercises, but going out to the web will get you a lot more exercises.

This is a very good exercise machine for the casual exerciser, as long as you’re not too tall. It’s easy to use, it doesn’t take up too much space, and it’s not prohibitively expensive. It’s sturdy, and you can work out all your muscles.

    Great starter system
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This Bowflex system is discontinued but is still a very good starter system. Or for someone who just wants to stay in shape. I haven’t tried yet but I assume extra power=rods can be purchased. It was also very easy to set up with a couple of wrenches and a screwdriver.
